In this edition of Meet the Team, we sat down with Ashley Lopez, project manager at Norwich Pro.
Q: What is your background?
A: I studied Childhood Education for my undergrad before getting my master’s degree in literacy education. After teaching for a few years in Washington DC and then becoming an early education program director in Vermont, I was lucky to move into higher ed. My first job at Norwich was in student services. I then got my MBA through Norwich and became a project manager on the continuing and professional education programs - Norwich Pro.
Q: What drew you to Norwich?
A: It’s so unique. It has a culture that you can’t find at most other colleges and has a rich history. Norwich draws a loyalty from staff and students that you can’t beat.
Q: Favorite way to spend a weekend?
A: I love spending weekend time as a family – exploring, 4-wheeling, cooking and grilling – but it’s also nice to have a date night when we can fit it in! We love Syracuse Orange basketball (and football), so we like to go to the games when we can.
Q: What movie or TV show are you currently streaming?
A:We just finished The Man in the High Castle series on Prime – check it out, it’s well worth your time!
Q: Favorite desk décor item?
A: Pictures of the kiddos.
Q: What is one object that best describes your personality?
A: Running shoes! I started running when I moved to Vermont and it taught me a lot about myself.
Q: Favorite memory from this past year’s Residency Conference?
A: I was on maternity leave during last year’s Residency, but in 2018 I was lucky to attend as a student and as an employee. The best part was meeting the students I had worked with over the past few years in-person.
Q: What’s one thing you’re learning right now, and why is it important?
A: I am currently taking the Project Management Certificate through Norwich Pro. Learning about design thinking has been eye opening and I am looking forward to using these skills to make me a better project manager!
